NYU: Optimizing a Global Policy + Data Think Tank

Establishing your brand as a research, policy, and advocacy hub is one thing. But configuring your digital ecosystem to earn visibility on an international scale is quite another.

Firefli joined forces with New York University’s Center on International Cooperation (CIC)—a nonprofit think tank with a focus on global humanitarian issues—to bring their groundbreaking work to a worldwide stage. This included designing two flagship websites: one for the CIC, and one for their Pathfinders program, a cross-regional coalition committed to advancing action on peace, justice, and equality for all.

Staying in sync

With so much overlapping content between the two sites, the NYU staff needed an effective way to streamline updates. Our solution? Establish a multi-site environment for both CIC and Pathfinders, empowering the NYU team to manage both independent sites from one centralized dashboard. Our team also implemented advanced content synchronization across platforms, reducing repetitive work and making sitewide updates more efficient.

Refining across user groups

Both the prestigious nature of NYU’s research and the multinational nature of their user base called for more advanced web functionality.

Firefli implemented multilingual content and translations across English, Arabic, French, and Spanish to ensure inclusivity across users. We also built an API integration to allow the United Nations to dynamically pull content from both websites, helping bring NYU’s work even more international visibility.

Elevating deeper research

Still, for issues as complex as international human rights, a flagship site can only tell part of the story.

To bolster CIC’s specialized grant-funded initiatives, Firefli helped build platforms for programs like the Inequality Solutions Portal and Preventing Armed Violence: An Evidence-Based Tool for Smarter Policy & Action, which featured interactive data visualizations for policymakers. We also provided hosting procurement and ongoing management, as well as design and technical support, for microsites like the Congo Research Group and the GENSAC Network, helping bring each and every platform into a well-deserved spotlight.
