Meet our resident history and culture nerd!

We’re excited to announce that we gained yet another Firefli in 2019! Emily Harmon stepped onto our team as Senior Strategist, working within the Strategy team to elevate our clients’ brands through editorial calendars, social media, and content production.

Emily comes to us from Virginia Tech, where she graduated from the Masters in History program in 2018 and became part of the Communications team at the Honors College. During her studies, her work on Roanoke’s city planning history won the William Preston Society Master’s Thesis Award.

Prior to pursuing history, Emily majored in English and, after college, worked at a non-profit in her hometown near Charlotte where she wrote web content and launched the organization’s social media presence. It was then that she realized her love of words combined well with an appreciation for photography, design, and digital media, and she’s been pursuing that in various ways ever since.

We knew Emily would be a great fit pretty much immediately. She's a natural storyteller, which is a vital skill for connecting brands to their audiences in any medium. We're so pleased to have Emily on the team, and we see great things ahead for her.Matthew Sams, Partner and Director of Strategy

If she could be magically transported anywhere right this minute, Emily would find herself in Spain. She’s happiest when she’s hanging out with her dog, Irving, and hosting friends with her husband in their 100-year-old home in Roanoke. Her goal in her spare time is to create and publish a walking tour in podcast form that features Roanoke’s urban history.
